The final assignment in the photography course I'm taking over at The Bloom was to shoot a series of lifestyle photos. I did this assignment just two weekends ago and the girls were a little under the weather so I decided to keep it simple and do the shoot on our street. And yes, the trees in the pictures are pretty bald with no leaves!! Spring has been very slow to arrive here so things are still pretty brown. However, the temps are now on the rise and things are finally starting to green-up and grow! Summer may actually be coming!
See that street sign in the picture below? Oak Street. I actually grew up on that street, and my husband and I even bought our first home not too far from here. You'd think I'd feel comfortable moving back here considering it is in the same area I grew up in and where my husband and I started our marriage, but maybe that old saying "you can never go back" is true.
I've tried to figure out why this place just wasn't feeling right for us. Maybe it's because I didn't really want to leave our home in Calgary, or maybe it has to do with the house we are in now held too many surprises for us during the renovation? Even though I hold many warm memories of this neighbourhood from when I was growing up, I knew immediately that it didn't feel right when we moved here.
Have you ever had that feeling? The feeling that you've moved on, maybe that life had changed so much that trying to go back wouldn't be the same. I think that being back here now has made me realize that I can't recreate what I left, nor do I want to. I am at a point in my life that I love to look back on the good memories I hold here, but I want to create new memories now, in new places.
Our upcoming move to a quaint small town just feels so much more our speed. It will be a place that all our experiences will be new, without being weighed down by memories from the past. Our entire family is really looking forward to moving to our new home and building our own new memories there.
Thank you so much for stopping by and sticking with me through my moving ups and downs. Here's to everyone having a most amazing day!
((hugs))
